The LG booth at CES 2009 was huge. There are so many products to talk about and so many to show you, that you would just get overwhelmed. Instead, I am going to concentrate on two products that were really cool.
The first was the 3D theater. 3D was a big theme this year at CES 2009 and LG had some impressive setups. First, was the 3D theater. It was two DLP projectors at (I think) a 100″ screen showing a 3D movie that only needed passive glasses to view. It looked really good. They played the U2 in 3D video from a U2 concert (the song was Vertigo). The picture was un-be-lievable! It really felt like you were at the concert. One shot was from behind the stage, looking over Bonos shoulder at the crowd and it felt so real. Unfortunately, I can’t show you any of this because you need the glasses or else the picture just looks distorted. The downside? LG had to use two projectors to get the 3D effect (one for each eye). The rep told me that the technology to have it be in one projector was at least 2 years away (I can’t get into details, but I know for a fact the technology is available today, they just haven’t figured it out yet!) LG was also showing off a few other cool 3D technologies.
The second was the concept TV that is still a few years out. The ultra, ultra thin OLED TV. These TVs are in the picture gallery below but are so, so super thin its amazing. Only .85mm thick! I personally can’t wait for this technology to become available!
